Hilton Hartford Hotel - Hartford, CT - February 27-28, 2009
The Second Annual National School Conference on International Youth Exchange was held at the Hilton Hartford Hotel in Hartford, Connecticut. The event was co-sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Education and the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC). Of the 120 participants, nearly fifty percent were educators and school personnel.
CSIET received very positive feedback on the quality of the speakers and content of each session. Participants rated the sessions on outbound exchanges, school-to-school exchanges, and the U.S. Department of State presentation very highly. Particular praise was also given to the exchange student speakers and keynoters Alina Romanowski and George Coleman featured in the opening plenary and luncheon, respectively.
During the Saturday Luncheon, CSIET Board Chair, John Doty, presented the 2009 Global Classroom Awards. Representatives from the three winning schools, Milwaukee School of Languages (Milwaukee, WI), Roosevelt High School (Seattle, WA) and Westford Academy (Westford, MA) spoke about the value of international exchange in their school community and their pride in receiving this type of recognition. Each of the winning schools’ representatives participated in the conference as panelists in various sessions and in an informal discussion group after the luncheon.
