Academic Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (AFICE) is a program dedicated to increasing understanding and empathy between different cultures and countries by way of cultural exchange, forging bonds of friendship that will last a lifetime.  AFICE was founded with the belief that increasing understanding and tolerance between nations is a worthwhile endeavor, and AFICE focuses on cultural exchanges for students of high school age in order to further that cause.

The prime objective of AFICE is to promote peace and hope for a better future by expanding the horizons of American families and teenagers from around the globe.  AFICE works toward these goals by giving eager young students from various countries the opportunity to become a functioning part of a family, school, and community in the United States.

The AFICE program has been developed with the expertise of people who believe in the value of cultural exchange and who have decades of experience in the field of international student exchange.  AFICE’s national office is located in La Jolla, California, with over 30 community representatives across the United States.  Students on the AFICE program are between 15 and 18 years of age.  AFICE partners with independent overseas organizations that are responsible for the recruitment and screening of potential student candidates for the AFICE program.

School Year/ Semester Program in the United States—Students ages 15 to 18 travel to the United States to live with a U.S. host family for either a semester or for one school year while attending a U.S. high school.  Participants must demonstrate academic interest and achievement and a good command of the English language.  Orientation is provided prior to departure from the home country and after arrival in the United States.  Cost to participants is generally $5,000 to $8,000, depending on country of origin and program duration.  Transportation, insurance, personal expenses, and fees charged by AFICE overseas partner organizations are additional.
