Since 1985, CCI Greenheart has offered cultural exchange programs in the U.S. that connect Americans with international students. Our mission is to promote cultural understanding, academic development, environmental consciousness and world peace. As the leading nonprofit cultural exchange sponsor that blends service learning and volunteerism into all of our programs, we are effectively creating a community of compassionate and conscious global citizens.
CCI Greenheart, a division of Greenheart International, organizes academic semester and year programs and ESL camps in the United States. Students are screened and selected in cooperation with sending partners. Selection is based on language skills, scholastic standing, cross-cultural skills, and motivation. As a nonprofit based in Chicago, CCI Greenheart sends and receives over 1000 participants annually.
In 2004, CCI Greenheart adopted Greenheart as our environmental and social initiative. Greenheart connects people and planet through environmentalism, fair trade, social transformation and cross cultural understanding. See Greenheart Travel’s listing for information about Academic Year/Semester Abroad under Outbound Programs and CCI Greenheart’s listing for Academic Year/Semester in U.S. under Inbound Programs.
F-1 High School Academic Program in the United States—International high school students travel to the United States for one academic year or semester in a private or public school on an F-1 visa. Students live with paid U.S. host families and attend local high schools. Orientation is provided by CCI Greenheart sending partners prior to departure and by CCI Greenheart local coordinators upon arrival. Counseling and supervision are provided throughout the stay; by our field staff and by our Student Counselor in our headquarters office. Program fees include medical/accident insurance. Transportation, sending partner fees, and personal expenses are additional.
Through our unique Greenheart Club, CCI Greenheart encourages American and international participants to make a difference through active participation in environmental and social service projects. Students are encouraged to join the Greenheart Club, volunteer in their communities and to log their volunteer hours for recognition. Each year students compete for the chance take part in the Junior Greenheart Global Leaders Conference, which includes an all-expenses paid trip to Chicago. Eight participants, 18 and under, from across the Greenheart branches, will be chosen for this conference. During this time they will explore global leadership through social and environmental service, cultural exchange, and international advocacy. Students must demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism, and submit an essay and letter of recommendation to be eligible.
