Aspect Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe, memorable, richly rewarding exchange opportunities to students and host families. Aspect Foundation students are screened for English language proficiency, strong academic ability, emotional maturity, open-mindedness, and a willingness to adapt to a new way of life. Aspect Foundation host families are also carefully screened and come from all walks of life: they can be married or single people, with or without children, who are willing to open their hearts and homes to a courageous teenager. Aspect Foundation’s high schools generously open their doors to foreign exchange students, who in turn lend a lively cultural diversity and many learning opportunities for their American peers. Nationwide, communities that welcome Aspect Foundation students are rewarded with bright, civic-minded youngsters who weave unforgettable memories into the fabric of daily life.
Aspect Foundation students, host families and schools enjoy the support of a strong network of trained professionals. Aspect Foundation’s local representatives, called International Coordinators, are dedicated individuals who enjoy working with youth and maintaining regular contact with all participants. International Coordinators place exchange students with qualified volunteer host families; support students and families throughout the school year; build strong relationships with schools and civic groups; and plan activities to introduce exchange students to the American way of life. Aspect Foundation’s International Coordinators receive comprehensive training and opportunities for lifelong learning and advancement in a fun, challenging work environment. International Coordinators are supported and supervised by a professional team of field managers, regional managers, national advisors, and administrative staff. All participants (host families, students and schools) receive three toll-free hotlines to call, in addition to the local coordinator’s contact information, in order to ensure 24-hour service to the Aspect Foundation family of friends.
Aspect Foundation Academic Semester/Year Program in the United States— International students ages 15 to 18 live with volunteer host families, attend the local high school, and share their culture with family and friends for a semester or academic year. Students and host families receive comprehensive pre-arrival and post-arrival orientations to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Students also attend a mid-stay orientation, where they gain insight into their personal growth and share cultural observations, and an end-of-stay orientation, where they learn how to say thank you and farewell to all who have made this experience possible. Aspect Foundation provides funding for our LEAD (Leadership, Education and Democracy) Program to ensure that students have the opportunity to learn about US American culture (history, diversity and the arts) and US American government, democracy and civic education. The Foundation also supports our annual International Kindness Kits Project to teach students the rewards of volunteerism. Cost to participants is $4,000 to $9,000; cost varies by country, and scholarships are available in specific countries. Transportation and insurance are not always included, and personal expenses are additional.
