Education Travel and Culture, Inc. (ETC) was founded to promote international understanding and goodwill by providing high quality educational and cultural exchange programs. ETC provides opportunities for high school students from throughout the world to study in an American high school and live with an American family. Host families provide room, board, a quiet place to study, and an American family experience for guest students during their semester or academic year in the United States. ETC has been designated by the U.S. Department of State as a sponsor agency. Participating students will be issued the appropriate paperwork to obtain J-1 visas.

Homestay communities are located throughout the United States. Local community coordinators recruit, screen, and orient host families and arrange for school placement. They supervise and provide local support and counseling, as needed. They also check in regularly with school personnel and host families, offering assistance when appropriate and gathering information for required monthly progress reports.

ETC promotes cultural sensitivity and understanding through its high school program. It is a forum for diverse cross-cultural experiences that foster awareness and interest in the exchange of culture, lifestyle, language, and ideas. Both in the United States and abroad, all are contributing to the development and education of tomorrow’s leaders.

ETC’s goal is to provide all program participants, students and their natural families, host families, American students, teachers, and schools, with opportunities for enhanced personal growth and the establishment of lifelong friendships.

Semester/Academic Year in the United States—ETC recruits motivated high school students ages 15 to 18 through its overseas partners. The selection process includes a confidential personal interview, English language proficiency test, health examination, and review of the student application and school grades. Students and their natural parents receive both an introduction to the program and a thorough orientation before departure. The students and their host families also receive an orientation upon their arrival in their host community. Costs are approximately $7000 per academic year and $5500 per semester student. Airfare, travel/medical insurance, visa, miscellaneous processing fees and personal expense money are separate.
