Leadership and Islam: Using Interdisciplinary Leadership to Foment Cultural Understanding

Speakers: Kari Owen, Regional Director, ICES; Joseph Watson, Director of Student Affairs, ICES

Making Muslim students feel welcome is an especially critical issue in America. Many companies and organizations have experienced that the current world situation has made it difficult for Muslim high school students to feel comfortable while on an exchange programs in the U.S. We all need to consider ideas for building bridges across the cultural divide. Bridging the cultural divide for Muslim students also requires education and support for host families, high schools, and local communities.

Joseph and Kari plan to talk about information on Joseph’s current educational pursuits to help grow and develop relationships between cultural demographics, and Kari will use her vast expertise working with Middle Eastern students to focus the topic on how to develop relationships between ostensibly competing cultures.
