The 3-Hour Training will:
- Provide a brief snapshot of mental health challenges in the adolescent and emerging adult populations
- Review a list of common mental health “Red Flags”
- Explain Emotional First AidTM (EFA) and why it is important
- Introduce BIG CAT (a roadmap of skills to help staff navigate escalated member scenarios)
- Review strategies for supporting student wellness
- Review the Mental Health Pyramid and explain the three levels
- Provide an opportunity for training participants to discuss scenarios for each of the levels
About the Trainer:
Laura Thompson, Ph.D, LPC, is the founder of The Mental Health Team and co-founder of P3 Mental Health Advisors and one of the creators of Emotional First Aid. Laura is a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Boulder, Colorado. She has worked with emerging adult population in university settings, both nationally and internationally, since 1994. In her role as a counselor, Laura is passionate about supporting individuals as they navigate a wide range of her knowledge and experience with other sos that they can strengthen their abilities in both identifying and responding on the mental health challenges of the individuals and program participants with whom they work.
Laura holds a Ph. D. in Counseling from Syracuse University. At Syracuse, she also earned a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Addiction Studies. Additionally, she holds an M.A. in Counseling and Educational Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno.
